Winds tonight are expected to reach 45 MPH tonight. JCP&L warns that severe weather could cause outages to last 24-hours or longer.
At 1:45 p.m. the JCP&L outage map has began to show outages in Freehold Township and Freehold Borough. While only minimal outages are currently being shown, 74 outages in Freehold Borough and less than five in Freehold Township, residents are advised to perform all necessary storm preparations. In Freehold Borough, Mayor Nolan Higgins explained that he and Adminstrator Joseph Bellina have reviewed the borough’s readiness for the storm. “All of our departments are prepared and our staff is on standby for the storm,” explained Higgins. “Two hundred tons of road salt is at our borough public works facility and a tree contractor is on standby if needed.” Both Freehold Borough and Freehold Township are in contact with JCP&L. Update, 10:28 a.m.: Power outages are now listed at 2,544 in Howell, 841 in Wall, 161 in Farmingdale, and 27 in Freehold Township. -- Some 531 Jersey Central Power & Light customers in Freehold lost power shortly before 10 a.m. on Tuesday, according to the JCP&L outage map. In addition, over 6,000 Howell households, 700 households in Farmingdale, and 400 in Wall have lost power. Some Howell customers received calls from JCP&L informing them they could lose power after midnight on Wednesday morning as the company completed maintenance work near Wycoff Mills Road. Utility company lists communication enhancements.
Jersey Central Power and Light (JCP&L) is saying that it will improve its communication with towns during "significant storm events," after the utility company was criticized by many municipal officials after Hurricane Sandy. JCP&L announced new practices and upcoming technology improvements at meetings on Jan. 3 in Eatontown and Morristown with members of the League of Municipalities, the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities and the New Jersey State Police. Update comes from Mayor Anthony Ammiano after speaking with JCP&L.
After speaking to a JCP&L representative, 1,000 more residences are expected to see power tonight, according to Freehold Township Mayor Anthony Ammiano. Slightly before 1:30 p.m. on Friday, JCP&L provided an updated timeline to Ammiano with estimated power renewal times. According to Ammiano, as of 9:15 p.m. on Thursday, 2,400 Freehold Township residents were without power. Currently, JCP&L says that approximately 1,800 residents are without power. JCP&L crews will be working until 10 p.m. tonight and by that time, outages in Freehold Township are expected to range between 500 and 800 residents. “On Thursday, we went from 4,200 to 2,400 outages,” reported Ammiano. “It's a slow progress but it is still progress.” Ammiano also explained …

This story was updated at 1:20 p.m. with information from the Township Administrator. Mayor Anthony Ammiano is asking Freehold residents for their help to get power restored in Freehold. After speaking with a JCP&L representative, Ammiano explained that in order for the power to be restored, residents need to report where they are seeing downed trees and wires. “The Township Police Department and Public Works Department have been doing a fabulous job and have been out all morning doing assessments but it is possible they may have missed something,” said Ammiano. Number of residents without power rise as Nor’Easter hits Monmouth County.
This story was updated at 8:30 a.m. Thursday with updated numbers from the outage map. Before power was fully restored, Wednesday’s Nor’Easter caused power outages to rise in Freehold. According to JCP&L’s outage map, on Thursday morning over 4,000 Freehold reisdents are without power. At 10:30 p.m. Wednesday night, over 3,000. Currently, the map shows 3,871 outages in Freehold Township and 303 outages in Freehold Borough. Before the Nor’Easter hit, some Freehold residents were still without power nine days after Hurricane Sandy hit Monmouth County. There are currently 28,176 JCP&L customers without power in Ocean County and 45,836 without power in Monmouth County, according to an update on the JCP&L website. Those numbers change constantly as crews continue to work on outages throughout the region. However, the nor'easter starting to move into the area may cause new outages as well as coastal flooding, according to the National Weather Service. Due to continued power outages, Freehold Township and Freehold Borough schools are closed Monday, Nov. 5.
Freehold Township and Freehold Borough schools will remain closed on Monday, Nov. 5. Both the Freehold Township district website and Freehold Borough school website stated that all schools will be closed Monday, Nov. 5. Freehold Township's website explained that the closure came from most schools in the district being without power, as well as many families in the area. In addition to schools being closed, school offices will also be closed on Monday. As originally scheduled, Freehold Township schools and offices will be closed for Election Day on Tuesday, Nov. 6. JCP&L outage map has shown lower outage numbers throughout Friday.
While the majority of Freehold is still without power, progress has been made and can be seen on the JCP&L outage map. The overall number of outages varied throughout Friday, but as of 4 p.m. 1,000 more people in Freehold had power on Friday than they did on Thursday. At 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Freehold Township had 10,993 outages, at 4 p.m. on Friday outage numbers dropped to 9,900. Areas of Freehold Borough also saw power on Friday as numbers went from 3,935 on Thursday to 3,638 on Friday. The JCP&L outage map did not specify which areas regained power, however areas of Rt. 9 and Jackson Mills Road were identified by Freehold Township Police as areas where power was being restored. JCP&L still reporting that power will be back in seven to ten days from when it originally went out.
Freehold Township Departments have been receiving calls stating that residents believe that the power will be back on within 24-hours in Freehold Township however, that is not true, said Mayor Anthony Ammiano. Like the rumors of contaminated water in Freehold, this rumor is also false. As originally reported, JCP&L is still on the seven to ten day time line for power restoration in Freehold. Areas of Freehold began to see power today and specific sections have traffic lights back up and running. Sgt. Ray Piccolini of the Freehold Township Police Department provided an update from JCP&L.
