Englishtown Names Jan. 14 'Christopher Matlosz Remembrance Day'

The former Englishtown Police Officer was killed in the line of duty on January 14, 2011 in Lakewood.

The Englishtown Borough Council introduced and adopted a resolution last week naming Jan. 14 “Christopher Matlosz Remembrance Day” in honor of Christopher Matlosz, a former Englishtown Borough Police Officer who was killed in the line of duty in Lakewood two years ago. Matlosz was a full time police officer for Englishtown between 2004 and 2006, when he left Englishtown to join the Lakewood Police Department. Matlosz was killed on January 14, 2011 by Jahmell Crockam during a routine traffic stop. Manalapan Governing Body Labels Anti-Semitic Vandalism 'Hate Crime'

The investigation into the anti-semitic vandalism is ongoing; no arrests have been made.

As the investigation into the anti-Semitic vandalism continues, the Manalapan Township Committee spoke out against these acts of hatred at their public meeting last Wednesday. Each member of the Township Committee vocalized their disgust over the swastikas and various anti-Semitic text found spray painted throughout the Monmouth Heights neighborhood on Thursday, Sept. 6. “Swastikas were painted on approximately 15 mailboxes, curbs and sidewalks, cars and signs and unspeakable, revolting words were painted on stop signs, fences and at the entrance to Monmouth Heights,” Manalapan Mayor Susan Cohen said. “We take this very seriously and are especially saddened to think that something like this is happening in Manalapan. Rt. 33 Repavement and Milling Starts Tonight

The road work is scheduled to begin on April 16 and last about four days.

The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) will be milling and paving sections of Rt. 33 next week, Manalapan Township Committeeman Jordan Maskowitz said at the public meeting at Town Hall on Wednesday. Both east and west sections of the state highway will be milled and paved during the overnight hours between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m., according to Maskowitz. The paving is scheduled to begin on April 16 and will purportedly take about four days to complete.

Pallone Discusses Impact of Affordable Care Act

The congressman marked the second anniversary of health care bill's passage with a visit to Greenbriar Clubhouse in Marlboro.

Rep. Frank J. Pallone Jr. (D-NJ) visited the Greenbriar Clubhouse in Marlboro Thursday to discuss the impact of the Affordable Care Act on seniors. Pallone was a principal author for the health care bill, which was signed into law on March 23, 2010. The intention of the bill is to create cost-cutting opportunities for seniors living on Medicare and Medicaid with a fixed income, he said. The Affordable Care Act stresses preventative services to alleviate the cost the government and hospitals bear with patients on Medicare in nursing homes and hospitals, Pallone said. Co-payments for services such as annual wellness visits, colonoscopies and mammograms are waived for Medicare and Medicare Advantage seniors through the Affordable Care Act. "…
