Daniel Simon's appointment awaits Monday vote of Freehold Regional High School District school board
Daniel Simon, current Wall Township Schools Superintendent, is slated to leave the embattled school district to join the Freehold Regional High School District, according to the high school district’s Board of Education meeting agenda. Simon, who joined Wall Township schools just more than a year ago, is to become the Principal of Colts Neck High School, according to the agenda. A vote on his appointment is scheduled for Monday’s board meeting. Simon, should he get board approval Monday, will be paid $155,221 for the Colts Neck job – $11,279 less than his annual $166,500 paycheck in Wall Township. Harry Carson will come to Colts Neck High School in August to spread concussion awareness.
As sports teams start practicing for the upcoming school year, proper safety measures are imperative. Next month, student athletes, parents, coaches, school nurses and doctors will be able to see NFL Hall of Famer Harry Carson join local health professionals at Colts Neck High School to talk about the dangers of concussions. Concussions are a type of traumatic brain injury that are very common among athletes. Carson, who played for the New York Giants from 1976 to 1988, told ESPN New York last year that he suffered between 12 to 18 concussions during his career. The school was evacuated today, but local officials determined the building was clear.
A "vague, non-specific" bomb threat was received this morning at Colts Neck High School, which led to an evacuation of the building. According to the district, the threat was a written threat found within the building. “The threat was actually a written message inside of a lavatory,” said Principal Keith Land in a news release. According to the Freehold Regional High School District, local law enforcement was called into the school around 10:30 a.m., and the evacuation is a standard district procedure. From the district: Explosive detecting dogs were deployed as a part of the emergency response procedures. Working with hurricane-like forces to accommodate the growing number of residents in need
With hurricane Irene making its way towards the Jersey shore, thousands of residents are taking refuge in the many shelters being set up across the state. Several of the shelters have reached full capacity, calling for more emergency locations to open and accept New Jersey residents. One such newly opened shelter is at Colts Neck High School. Operated by a team of volunteers and managed by experienced volunteer Diana Noble, this shelter is running at full force to accommodate as many people as it can. With 250 cots set up in the school’s gymnasium, the shelter is equipped to provide one blanket per person.
