Freehold Named 2013 Skate and Surf Festival Location

iPlay America will host the music festival in May.

After an eight-year hiatus, the Skate and Surf Festival has decided to make its comeback in Freehold. The Skate and Surf Festival originated in Asbury Park, and was an annual event that promoted new music and showcased some of the more popular ‘punk-rock’ bands. Once the popularity of the festival caught on, it changed its name to Bamboozle, and became a traveling festival. According to a press release, the two-day concert will be held at The Plaza Green of iPlay America on May 18 and 19. GameChanger World, an artist-powered mobile gaming platform company, backs the festival. “I felt the timing was right to revive the Skate And Surf Festival,” said John D’Esposito, of GameChanger World in a press release. “It’s where it all began for me …

Cher Lloyd Performs for Freehold High School

Freehold High School received a free concert from Cher Lloyd after winning 92.3 NOW FM's 'Last School Standing' Contest.

Freehold High School (FHS) students took a break from their typical Wednesday night activities to experience a once in a lifetime opportunity. As winners of 92.3 NOW FM’s ‘Last School Standing’ contest, students saw a private performance with Cher Lloyd, a 2010 X-Factor UK finalist. Singer of chart topping songs “Want U Back” and “Oath”, FHS students cancelled their usual after school activities to see Lloyd perform a private concert for them. “I quit drama so that I could come to this show,” said FHS junior Jordan Hanley. “I cancelled swimming too,” said Lexi McGrath, also a junior at FHS. While the road to get to Wednesday night’s performance had its bumps, FHS students lined up as early at 4 p.m. outside the ballroom of iPlay America …

Cher Lloyd Concert Scheduled for Freehold High School Students

92.3 NOW FM will be giving Freehold High School a free concert at iPlay America Wednesday.

It may have been a bumpy road for Freehold High School, but their prize of having a free concert with Cher Lloyd will become a reality on Wednesday evening. Back in September, 92.3 NOW FM held their annual "Last School Standing" contest where the school with the most votes would win a concert at their school. This year, a concert with Cher Lloyd, a finalist in the UK’s X-Factor, was up for grabs. After an intense few weeks of voting, Freehold High School was named the winner with 37.5% of the votes, beating out schools from all over the tri-state area. “It was a community effort, not only were [Freehold High School] students voting, but parents and students in other schools were voting for us,” explained Michael Raia, a junior at Freehold …

Local Businesses Team Up to Help Hurricane Sandy Victims

CentraState and iPlay America have organized a concert with ticket sales going to the United Way of Monmouth County.

Help those in need while enjoying a night of classic rock music right in the heart of Freehold. CentraState Healthcare Foundation has joined forces with iPlay America to present The B Street Band in a disaster relief concert. The concert, which will be held on Saturday, Nov. 17 is a collaborative effort between CentraState and iPlay. According to Special Events Manager at CentraState Healthcare Foundation Jamie Weiskopf, the idea of the relief concert came only a week after Hurricane Sandy hit. “My staff and I wanted to do something to help the victims of the storm,” explained Weiskopf. “I had contacted them [iPlay America] originally to see if we could have a concert there and they said they were having The B Street Band on Nov. 17 and …

Cher Lloyd Concert Gets Green Light from FRHSD

The Freehold Regional High School District has released a formal statement with details about Freehold High School winning a free contest from 92.3 NOW.

One week after winning a free concert from 92.3 NOW Freehold High School students have officially learned that Cher Lloyd will be coming to Freehold. Earlier this week, an online petition created by Freehold High School students stated that due to a FRHSD policy the students did not believe they would be able to have the concert they had won. The statement issued by the FRHSD dispelled rumors that the contest was forfeited due to a Board of Education policy. The district’s statement explained that the Freehold High School administration worked with the Office of Freehold Township Mayor Anthony Ammaino and other local businesses regarding the logistical requirements of having a concert. “I am extremely proud of the students for …
