Learn About Colonial and Victorian Christmas Customs at Library

The presentation will be held on Friday, Nov. 30 at 2 p.m. at Monmouth County Library Headquarters in Manalapan Township.

The Monmouth County Library System is bringing back one of their most popular programs which is all about Colonial and Victorian Christmas Customs. Judith Krall-Russo will be discussing all of the holiday traditions on Friday, Nov. 30 at 2 p.m. at Monmouth County Library Headquarters in Manalapan Township. Krall-Russo will talk about the similarities and differences between the customs of a Colonial Christmas and a Victorian Christmas. Some common Christmas rituals including caroling and making a gingerbread house have been passed on from earlier times. Monmouth County Library Collecting Holiday Gifts for Foster Children

Donations can be made at Monmouth County Library Headquarters in Manalapan.

The Monmouth County Library system is collecting gifts for the foster children of Monmouth County this holiday season. From Nov. 20 through Dec. 17, gift collection boxes will be present in Monmouth County Library during regular library hours. Acceptable donations include new unwrapped gifts for children from infancy to 18-years-old as well as gift cards to popular stores for children.  Children in foster care can feel very much alone during the holiday season and remember good times with their biological families before the abuse began, according to Monmouth County Foster and Adoptive Family Services. Teens to Monster Mash at Monmouth County Library's Monster Bash

The Monmouth County Library is holding a Halloween Monster Bash for teenagers on Friday, Oct. 26.

If you’re a teenager looking to have a scary good time this Halloween, the Monmouth County Library has a monstrous party that even the most ghastly teen will appreciate. The Halloween Monster Bash is exclusively for guys and ghouls in sixth grade through twelfth grade. The bash is is being held on Friday, Oct. 26 from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. at the Monmouth County Library in Manalapan. No entrance is permitted after 6:30 p.m. and teens must be picked up at 9 p.m. If you’re interested in doing the Monster Mash at the Monster Bash, registration is required. Grace Cosgrove Performs Laura Nyro Songs Sunday

Cosgrove will be singing her new album, which pays tribute to Laura Nyro, at the Monmouth County Library on Sunday, Oct. 21

Award-winning singer Grace Cosgrove will be performing her new album, To Laura with Love, at the Monmouth County Library in Manalapan on Sunday, Oct. 21 at 2 p.m. Cosgrove's new album is a tribute to Laura Nyro, a singer-songwriter of the 1960s and 1970s. Nyro is known for her eclectic sound which blends pop, jazz, R&B, gospel, and Broadway. Several of Nyro's hit songs include "Wedding Bell Blues", "Eli's Coming", "Stoned Soul Picnic", and "And When I Die". "From the first time she heard Laura Nyro’s music as a teenager, [Cosgrove] was enthralled and transported by the spirit, passion and poetic storytelling of Laura’s songwriting art, and has been interpreting her songs throughout her performing career," Cosgrove's website explains. …

Delve into Monmouth County's Past at Archives and History Day

The Monmouth County Archives marks their 25th year by sharing key pieces in collection

The Monmouth County Archives is celebrating their 25th anniversary at Monmouth County Library Headquarters in Manalapan on Saturday, Oct. 13 for Archives and History Day. From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the library, the Archives staff will present an exhibit that gleans a look into days gone by. "Windows to the Past: Forty Documents from the Collection" includes 40 items: 38 facsimiles and two newly printed photographs. Governor's Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse Holds Forum at Monmouth County Library

The drug forum on heroin and other opiate use in youth and young adults was held at the Monmouth County Library Headquarters.

For New Jersey families, heroin and opiate addiction hits a lot closer to home than many want to admit. Over 100 residents from all over the state gathered at the Monmouth County Library Headquarters in Manalapan on Thursday to hear the Governor’s Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse (GCADA) hold their third hearing on drug and alcohol addiction. A panel of 12 professionals in the addiction field, inlcuding former New Jersey Governor Jim McGreevey, ran the GCADA's task force on heroin and other opiate use amongst New Jersey youth and young adults meeting.
