ReplyInstead of everyone looking to point their finger at the Governor for his support, perhaps you should look to your local elected officials to see why you aren't as far along as Belmar is. The Governor didn't decide that Belmar was his own personal project, but he was asked for help. Belmar has not received any preferrential treatment but has done much, if not all of this, for itself, but still has a long way to go.
Why are Ortley Beach and some other towns still in disarray? Have you looked to your town leaders; to yourselves? How is this Governor's fault? Are you expecting the Governor's office to come to your towns and fix it for you?
It's time for some perspective here. You can dislike the Governor for whatever your reasons, but to fault him for supporting a town that has pulled itself up by the bootstraps is just sour grapes. If your towns are still floundering, with no forward progress, call your Senator or go to a council meeting and find out why. Other towns are rebuilding, what is stopping yours?
And, if you don't like Belmar, then don't come here. The laws to keep it a friendly and safe town were made to deter folks who thought it was their town to ruin from ruining it.

ReplyCan't you put aside politics for a day and be happy that belmar has come this far? Thanks for the support. Ugh.

ReplyOf course they want money and publicity. This is a RESORT town and that's how a goodly number of people make their living. But this isn't about greed. This is about spirit and working together. It's about rising up after a tragedy, reaching out to your neighbor and working as one.
Some folks like attention and will seek it, even if its negative.

ReplyThere is no Ocean Avenue in Lake Como. Belmar owns the entire length and Lake Como starts two blocks west of Ocean Avenue.

ReplyWhat a fantastic outing! I can't believe this is the first I've heard of it. I'll definitely be doing this with my 10 year old granddaughter in the very near future. Or alone.

Replyit depends on what I need if I would go to Taylors, A's or Lowes. But come on people, lets put a positive spin on this and be happy that this strip mall is finally getting an anchor store and a nice rateable for Wall. Also, a realistic spin .. almost all of us go to HD or Lowes for things we can't get at Taylors or A's. There doesn't seem to be a reason to bash Lowes. Going local or to a big box store isn't mutually exclusive. I for one am glad that there will be a Lowes nearby.

Really? And you know this, how? Why do some people always have to cast blame and assume negatively.
Glad that they are safe.

ReplyNot a moron necessarily. I've seen a lot of veteran police officers do the same thing (and yes, it was laughable once determined no one was seriously hurt). Guns are serious business.

ReplyI was at one of our local food stores a couple weeks ago and over half of the yogurt on 'sale' was over a week out of date, asa were several packages of cheese. And this was only on one, quick visit. I find this all of the time. And I agree, the consumer must be aware of dates on the products they buy, but there is also an expectation that the food sold is fresh. And yes, I reported it to the store.

Barbara, I'm sorry that your in-laws lost all. A lot of people did, including my nephew and family, and a lot are still living in housing and motels. This has nothing to do with Belmar's accomplishments, or losses. Ride down the streets of Belmar, and you will see houses with the big red X and others still cleaning out. This isn't about the Governor, it's about people who had to go through red-tape to even start, and then having more tape thrown at them. The boardwalk reopening is a sign of hope, not the ultimate sign the we have no more to do.
Tourism is actually the largest business in New Jersey. Without tourism the shore towns would cease to exist. But again, it's up to the individuals to do what must be done to 'get it done'. Frankly, if I lived in one of the towns that waited until April to get bids for the boardwalk, I would have been at meetings screaming to know why things weren't moving. It's not up to government to fix our injuries, it's up to each of us.
