Booker Won't Run From Problems, New Ad Says

Cory Booker released new campaign ad, to appear on cable stations statewide on Wednesday.

Newark Mayor Cory Booker on Tuesday launched the first campaign ad in his bid for the U.S. Senate seat of late Sen. Frank Lautenberg.

Booker, who has a double-digit lead in early polling among the four Democratic candidates, says in the ad that politicians in Washington often duck the problems facing Americans.

Bluntly, Booker says: “I won’t.’’

The ad, titled “Run,’’ will debut on cable television stations statewide on Wednesday, according to a statement. It was released on Booker’s campaign website and on YouTube late Tuesday.

“I’ve spent my career not running from challenges, but toward them,” Booker says in the ad. “I’ve proven that by bringing people together, even with big problems, we can make big progress and improve people’s lives.”

Booker is running against U.S. Rep. Rush Holt, U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone and state Assembly Speaker Sheila Oliver for the Democratic nomination in an Aug. 13 primary election.

Holt last week released an ad on his campaign website, positioning himself as an anti-Booker.
